IN last week’s national media it was reported that the MP for Eddisbury (or her office) had reported one of her constituents to the police.

This was because the lady constituent in question had had the temerity to write to the MP’s constituency association criticising her for being a Remainer and part of a Tory ‘Remain Gang of 11’ that had gone against the referendum result and appeared to undermine the Prime Minister and the Brexit process.

Who does Ms Sandbach think she is reporting a constituent to the police because she doesn’t like the views expressed by said constituent?

Can Ms Sandbach confirm whether it was she or one of her staff who contacted the police?

Ms Sandbach and/or her office have form here.

During the 2017 general election (in which I stood for UKIP against her) I received a letter from her campaign office informing me that they had reported me to the police because I had put out social media posts highlighting that Ms Sandbach was one of the 11 Tory MPs who last December had defeated her government and the Prime Minister’s EU Withdrawal Bill.

I also highlighted that Ms Sandbach was standing for a constituency that had voted Leave and that she should represent that view (Ms Sandbach is a Remainer).

Unfortunately Eddisbury is a very safe Tory seat.

With our ‘first past the post’ electoral system (that guarantees either a Tory or Labour government) I knew I couldn’t win.

This problem persists in scores of ‘safe’ Labour and Tory seats and makes a mockery of electing MPs who are supposed to be accountable to their constituents.

They have a ‘safe’ seat for life and to keep it are more concerned about staying onside with their party and local association rather than their constituents.

If Ms Sandbach doesn’t like her constituents (and I’m one of them) criticising her then as President Truman is alleged to have said: ‘If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.’ John Bickley UKIP Candidate, Eddisbury-2017 General Election
