AT the open day held on April 14, visitors to the Guildhall in Winsford High Street were invited to make suggestions for the future use of the building.

One suggestion is for the building to be used by the town council as its administration centre together with a joint use council chamber and meeting room on the ground floor.

The first floor could then be partially let to commercial tenants thereby bringing in an income which would allow the rest of the first floor to be used by local community groups at little cost.

The commercial rents charged, together with the savings the town council would make when it was no longer paying £17,000 per year for it present office in Wyvern House would go a long way to paying for the upkeep and running of the building without having to add to the council tax burden.

As anyone who has attended a Winsford Town Council meeting knows only too well that if more than two members of the public attend they end up sitting on the edge of desks or standing in the doorway.

A proper council chamber which would double as a formal meeting room, when required, would solve this overcrowding problem.

I would be interested to know what your readers think of this proposal.
