THERE are often letters from disgruntled people regarding the legality of parking on the pavement. It is actually only illegal within London (and Exeter).
The Highway Code, Rule 244, states that “You must not park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it...”
But “should not” is, according to “The Pedestrian Liberation” (top search on Google), code for it not being illegal. It goes on to explain that it can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with a visual impairment and people with prams or pushchairs.
So, it’s a matter of common sense and consideration for others, and that’s the tricky bit.
