MJB, Guardian, March 16 edition, clearly has misunderstandings about Brexit and the processes involved.

Leaving the EU is like an extremely complex divorce with many issues to resolve and/or negotiate; there is no way this could have been achieved in eight months.

We ‘Remainers’ agree that England and the rest of the UK, will survive outside the EU.

However, we believe that we will be much worse off economically and in other ways by leaving.

In fact, we are already worse off as a result of the decision to leave - just look at the value of sterling.

Winston Churchill, who must take major credit for successfully ensuring our and Europe’s freedom, was a major advocate of closer ties with Europe.

He realised that countries which trade and have other links with each other are less likely to go to war.

His actions were part of the process that resulted in the formation of the EU as it is today.

Since the EU was created, there have been few military conflicts within Europe.

Most of the conflicts, with some notable exceptions, involving the UK before the First World War, were about taking away sovereignty from others (eg in India), not about defending our freedom.

We ‘Remainers’ are not being insulting towards those who gave their lives during the two world wars; indeed we passionately believe that, if we stayed in the EU, our descendants would be less likely to be involved in further conflicts and would be more prosperous.
