WHILE I see Lach Dennis parish council donating money to the anti HS2 campaign, I am not sure that council tax precept should be raised for an overtly political issue.

Having read numerous correspondents attacking HS2 and our MP’s support thereof, may I succinctly put an argument in favour of HS2 and why Graham Evans has much more foresight than the rather loud objectors.

My argument is simply technical.

HS2 will only reduce journey times to London by about 20 minutes, agreed.

However this is currently because of the limitations of the track.

Once the track is upgraded, the limitation will be on the train and with bullet trains operating at up to (and there are experimental versions of this already) 500 miles per hour, the journey time from Cheshire to the capital could be of the order of 25 minutes.

Easily commutable.

HS2 is for the long term.

In 40 years in the future, do we really want to be crawling along Victorian railway lines while the Japanese are moving at the speed of sound?

Of course not.

HS2 will join the country together; make the north/south divide meaningless and be a legacy for our children and grandchildren.

It takes people of vision and courage to rise above the howls of protest.

I believe that Graham Evans is right and should resist the protests.

Supporting HS2 is simply the right thing to do.
