I WRITE after seeing the video of the HGV getting stuck under the aqueduct bridge and the damage caused to a resident’s hedge at Mill Lane.

Cheshire East spent who knows how much on patching up the roads around Middlewich for the Tour of Britain cycle race.

What a pity that while they were re-marking the white lines at the junction of St Michael’s Way next to Red Lion House they failed to seize the opportunity while on site to re-mark the low bridge warning a mere 20 metres away at Newton Heath.

Also what an opportunity to have marked on the carriageway of the repaired A54 St Michael’s Way an advance warning of a low bridge on the A530 approaching this junction.

While preparing orange bikes for the peloton Cheshire East might even have “raleighed” around and not “back-pedalled” and “wheely” improved the warning signs for the low bridge – which their spokesperson says are adequate.

Gosh, I have found “adequate” in the dictionary and I must agree with CE Highways that “adequate” does come before “aqueduct” – but both of these appear to come before avoid – yet follow “alternative”.
