I MUST congratulate the councillors for getting out and seeing what needs attending to in their area and cutting back foliage in the alleyway close to Cledford School.

I have been reporting for three years that Whitehorse Alley linking Lewin Street to St Annes Walk, needs attention. Apart from eventually moving the door lying on the floor (with rusty nails sticking up) little has been done.

Part of the fencing is collapsing at the rear of the White Horse and propped up by a broken flagstone and could crush a child. Further along behind the fire station another broken post leans across the footway with barbed wire at a child’s eye height.

Excuses have been that it is the responsibility of the Town Council to sort it.

When I pointed out that the town council do not have any “men”

other than the CE highways team I was advised that they were unable to trace the owner of the land where the fencing is collapsing at the rear of the White Horse and it was that owner’s responsibility.

But the other post with the barbed wire belonged to the school – so have they contacted the school?

I have been told the alley is not on the town map held by Cheshire east Council.

Does this mean South Way Alley is not on the map and the owners of the overgrown properties whose hedges encroach on this walkway causing the street lights to burn in the day time are untraceable?
