REFERRING to your recent articles in the Guardian regarding speed problems on the A54 through Sproston.

As a resident of Sproston living on the A54, I fully support the parish council's efforts to have the speed limit reduced to 30 mph.

Cars and HGVs constantly exceed the current speed limit and if you are travelling at 40mph or less, some drivers come up close behind you in an attempt to push you to a higher speed endangering you and other road users.

When I am waiting to turn right into my property I am in danger of being hit from the rear, as well as watching oncoming traffic I have to constantly check my mirrors for traffic travelling too fast behind me.

I cannot understand Cheshire West and Chester stating that there is no speed problem and would like to see the evidence to support this comment.

We have two “crash site” signs which are activated when they detect vehicles travelling in excess of 40mph.

At 1pm today the sign on the eastbound carriageway activated 11 times out of a count of 31 vehicles.

I think this illustrates the parish council's concerns. Brian Barrett Address supplied
