I NOTE that Cheshire East’s Conservative-led council decided recently at a cabinet meeting to increase further the allocation of housing across the borough.

What surprises me is the increase involves Middlewich when I thought the local plan was partly rejected because of the need for more housing in the north of it.

The 350 extra houses to be submitted in the revised plan for the town as reported in last week’s Guardian is clearly an attempt to capitalise on an unfortunate situation.

There is hardly the infrastructure for the previous additional housing, let alone these proposed extra ones.

Though important, where these are built is secondary to the fact that they are being built at all.

When is Cheshire East going to realise that there are limits to what extra development the pre-existing infrastructure in our town can take?

Yours sincerely, Dr Peter Hirst Middlewich
