IT is with interest that I read the letter from Councillor Stephen Burns on the subject of speed humps.

As a resident of Weaver Street does the councillor know how many times our street as well as Dingle Lane have become gridlocked with traffic?

As soon as any lane blockage appears on High Street then Weaver Street and Dingle Lane become the main road through Winsford in both directions.

With car parking on both sides of the street there is only room for traffic to flow in one direction at a time. Yes we do want speed humps in both Dingle Lane and Weaver Street, but as you say not quite as severe as in Dingle Lane at present.

What we would dearly love is, as I have written to previous councillors stating, a one way system in Weaver Street.

One way down Weaver Street from the car park entrance of the Rifleman pub, thus allowing traffic to come and go to reach the shops and pub via Dingle Lane, until the junction of Weaver Street and William Street.

This will allow traffic to reach William Street from the roundabout at the bottom of Winsford thus keeping that traffic from joining the traffic in the High Street.

With the new housing estate being built in Dingle Lane and looking at the plans there has been a convenient gap left between houses on the already built housing estate in William Street and the new estate in Dingle Lane.

Is this to make a road so allowing the residents to come into Weaver Street and then out of the town?

The one way system will also allow the users of the college to reach the entrance of the college from the roundabout.

One more thing that is not helping residents of Weaver Street is students parking to go to the college in Weaver Street making it almost impossible for the residents to park outside their own homes.

The college has a car park and an overspill car park in New Road. The overspill car park is never used.

I have complained to the college about this but the answer I got was that if they pay road tax then they can park anywhere on a road as long as they are not breaking any traffic law.

Why pay money on a car park that will never be used?
