What about the extra traffic?

3:23pm Wednesday 15th May 2013

MY concern about the urban village is, where is the extra traffic going to go? Guardian, April 24. If there are going to be 1,200 houses, you are looking at least 1,200 cars probably more as most households have two cars. As there is not going to be another bridge over the River Weaver, this means that Winnington Bridge is going to be the only way out of Winnington. This will be the only route out if you work in Warrington, Runcorn or Manchester, which is a no-go area with it being single traffic over the bridge. The only other way is either up Burrows Hill into Hartford and through Weaverham, or travel along Wallerscote Road past Hartford Golf Club onto the Weaverham bypass which will cause utter chaos in Weaverham? If you wanted to get through Northwich using the gyratory system, again utter chaos. I would like someone from the council to reassure me that this is not going to be the case. I do not think that the road infrastructure is going to be sufficient and accidents could happen.

Why are there different rules?

I WALK to work at 5.30am as I work early shifts. Every morning I encounter Morrisons shift workers commuting on bicycles. The cyclists, who have no lights or visible vests always ride two abreast on the pavement. While walking the dog today, I was missed by inches by a young lady riding her bike, in the daytime, on the pavement. I have a 16-year-old son who rides everywhere on a BMX, even Northwich to Winsford. He causes no trouble but has been stopped and fined £45 for riding on a pavement. I had to pay the fine as he does not work. He has been stopped on numerous occasions when he has been forced to ride on the pavement due to parking issues on narrow roads.

It’s a rough ride around town

4:26pm Wednesday 8th May 2013

I HAVE been using a Shopmobility scooter for the past three years. They have no shock absorbers, and as one who suffers from back problems I find that some areas of Northwich are extremely rough. Getting on and off some pavements is not an easy ride. Particularly annoying is the inconsiderate blocking of the ramps in Tabley Street by cars, and that in a restricted parking area. Mothers with a child in a pushchair have the same problem as they can’t use the ramps.

Town needs some more attention

IT is all very well going ahead with the grandiose schemes for a super leisure centre with of course the much heralded extra swimming lanes and the arrival of Waitrose, despite the fact that we have many well known supermarkets already here. But what about repairing all the treacherous uneven pavements, the clearing up of litter by Moss Lane and on the dog walking area?

I WOULD like to thank Hough & Chorlton Parish Council for inviting me to its meeting last week about HS2 and making me aware of people’s concerns over the impact on properties in the area.

THE trust in charge of mid Cheshire’s hospitals has been named as one of the best in the country.
