WITTON Albion fell to a first defeat of a new season in the Northern Premier League’s top-flight when they succumbed to Altrincham on Monday afternoon.
James Poole and Josh Hancock, a former fans’ favourite at Wincham Park, were on target for the Robins in a 2-0 win.
However Carl Macauley’s men still reach the end of August with more points than their highly-fancied Cheshire neighbours.
In the North West Counties League, Winsford United put behind them the disappointment of losing heavily at Runcorn Linnets on Friday when they edged out Widnes at St Luke’s Barton Stadium.
Brandon Moores and George Riley were both on target for Blues in a 2-1 win against their promoted guests.
