JOE Gibiliru reckons Winsford United can still finish in the top six this season.

They are six points away from their target with six games to play and the Blues boss this week set his players an added challenge - play for your places next year.

"I'm making plans already," he said.

"Everybody who is here now will have a chance to prove themselves but I know where I want to strengthen and have in mind the players I can get in to improve the team."

Gibiliru was buoyed by compliment from champions-elect Trafford after they nicked a 2-1 win at Winsford on Saturday.

Lee Thompson levelled momentarily for Blues before the visitors netted a winner.

"Their manager told me we had been the best team they have faced this season," said Gibiliru.

"It's frustrating to hear that after you have just lost but the lads have done everything I have asked of them after the disappointment of losing in the cup to Bootle so I've no complaints."

The defeat, Winsford's first in three meetings with Trafford so far this season, leaves them 11th in Vodkat North West Counties League Division One.

It's not a position Gibiliru likes to be in.

"I'm not settling for that by any stretch of the imagination," he added.
