WINSFORD United have repeated a plea for help to pay for an overhaul of their home.
Director Alan Johnson told the Guardian the club hope to raise £60,000 - the equivalent of £5 from every house in the town – to build practice pitches next to Barton Stadium.
“That’s our priority,” he said.
“We would like a revenue stream in place to money for the other improvements we would like to make to the ground.”
The club launched the Barton Stadium Redevelopment Fund earlier this year, tasked with raising around £200,000.
But Johnson has revised that figure after drawing up a phased programme for transforming Blues’ backyard.
He says two all-weather pitches, to be built next door to the ground on land behind the social club, is the best place to start.
“There is a huge demand for small-sided football,” he said.
“You only have to look at what happens at Moss Farm or Sir John Deane’s College in Northwich for proof of that.
“We want to bring something similar to Winsford.”
