Why should I watch..?

If Winsford are serious about a return to the top four, they won’t have a better chance to get there.

Their guests tomorrow, AFC Liverpool, have lost their past seven North West Counties League fixtures.

In fact, Reds haven’t won since scoring four times without reply against Blues when the teams met at Crosby in early September.

Lee Duckworth’s men were held to a draw at home to Squires Gate last weekend, and they will be keen to avoid a repeat against another struggling opponent.

They can take encouragement from previous meetings on home turf with the Merseysiders, none of which have ended in defeat.

What they’ve said

“Our mentality is changing.

“We’re looking up rather than over our shoulders at what is happening below, and that’s great.

“The players have repeatedly demonstrated their character in the past 12 months or so, and that includes in recent games.”

The newcomer is yet to get off the mark following a switch from Premier Division rivals Abbey Hey, but has shown improvement in every game.

Blues are starting to recover their attacking pieces with Michael Koral and Scott Taylor stepping up their comebacks over the past 10 days, but Jordan Johnson’s long-term absence means there remains shoes to fill at the point of Winsford’s attack.

Winsford team news

Front man Jordan Johnson (knee) is still ruled out by an injury, although Michael Koral and Scott Taylor are pushing for a start after appearing as second-half substitutes last Saturday.

Danny Hudson is unavailable, although player-manager Lee Duckworth is hoping to call again on Danny Kerr after he helped the UK Armed Forces’ team to victory in the Kentish Cup last week.

The defender has missed the past three games.
