LEE Duckworth has insisted that Winsford United will not compromise on their attacking principles when they take on one of the league’s most formidable frontlines.

Blues host West Didsbury & Chorlton at St Luke’s Barton Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

The visitors have scored an average of more than three goals a game in the North West Counties League this season – a figure bettered only by the teams from Runcorn.

“They love going forward as much as we do!” quipped Winsford’s player-manager.

“It’s a game I’m excited for because I think it will be open and therefore great to watch.

“We won’t change our approach though, and I’m pretty sure they’ll adopt the same attitude.”

Winsford enter the weekend buoyed by returning to the Premier Division’s top-four after coming from behind to thrash Burscough on Tuesday.

Callam Gardner scored a six-minute hat-trick after Lee Healey had put the Linnets in front shortly after the interval.

Duckworth said: “He’s come up trumps for us since coming back to the club.

“We’ve always admitted his technique and ability to create chances, but he deserves credit for adding a commitment to work hard to that.”

Chris Middleton, new recruit Jason Fowles and Robbie Hatton were also on target in a crushing 6-1 win.

It was exactly the response the manager had asked for following a 1-1 draw at high-flying Charnock Richard last Saturday, when the home team scored a wind-assisted last-minute leveller.

Duckworth added: “That was hard to take after playing so well.

“We challenged the lads not to feel sorry for themselves, and to roll up their sleeves for a real battle at Burscough.

“That’s the sort of game we’ve struggled in previously, but I’m fed up of opposing managers praising us for how we’ve played after taking points of us.

“I’d rather they think we’re rubbish and we turn them over!”

Dave Short, a striker, played from the start at Burscough after transferring to St Luke's Barton Stadium from Stockport Town.

He is the second forward added to Blues' squad this week following the arrival of Jay Burgess from Cheshire League side AFC Macclesfield.
