Ex-Blues boss takes over at Prescot Cables

FORMER Winsford United manager Joe Gibiliru has returned to Prescot Cables.

The 47-year-old replaces Andy Gray at the UniBond Division One North outfit after parting company with Blues last week.

He sat in the Valerie Park dugout as player boss almost two decades ago.

“We’re delighted to welcome him back,” read a statement from the Cables’ board.

Another face familiar to Winsford fans, Dave Ridler, will be Gibiliru’s number two and together the pair hope to return the Merseysiders to the UniBond League’s top tier following their relegation last time out.

Gibiliru guided Winsford to tenth place in the first of his two terms at the helm in the Vodkat North West Counties League Premier Division, claiming victory in the Mid-Cheshire FA Senior Cup final and defeating big guns Salford and Trafford on the way to the final four of the Vodkat League Challenge Cup.

But Blues won just won knockout match – a penalty shoot out success against Middlewich Town – in his second season.

A run of just two league wins in 19 matches since the turn of the year saw them avoid relegation by a single point.

“In some ways Joe was a victim of his own success because our first year back in this division was a hard one to follow,” chairman Mark Loveless told the Guardian this week.

He has since signed Terry Murphy as Gibiliru’s successor.
