A WINSFORD ASC swimmer made his county debut last week.
Teenager Michael Almond capped a day to remember by clocking a national qualifying time in the Inter County Konica Trophy at Stockport.
It secured him first place in the Men's Open 100m freestyle.
"Michael has blossomed in terms of his success," said head coach Dave Pettengell.
"He is 15 now and at that age swimming becomes harder.
"It never gets easier but you learn to handle it and start to appreciate more why you have to do certain things as part of your training routine to get better.
"I think he has reached that stage."
Almond also swam the first leg of the mixed 4x50m freestyle relay, clocking a personal best of 26.4s, as Cheshire finished second.
He ended with the last leg in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay, a race that his team won.
The previous day Almond clocked two times that passed the marker needed to swim at the National Age Group Championships.
His 2:00.37 in the 200m freestyle and 4:14.81 in the 400m freestyle put him among the best in Britain.
Clubmate Abbie Henderson was another to reach the national standard, clocking 4:30.94 in the 400m freestyle and 9:15.46 in the 800m freestyle.
