GEORGE Abbotts Butchers won the top-of-the-table clash in the latest round of Mid-Cheshire Table Tennis League fixtures.

They edged out Victoria 6-4 to move to the summit of Division One, with James Eaton recording two victories.

Winsford also enjoyed a narrow 6-4 win away at Bears, with Garry Owen recording a maximum for the visitors.

Andy Edwards was unlucky for the Bears, losing two close five-set matches to Owen and Andy Beswick.

Unbeaten evenings from Winston Jacobs and Craig Lee helped Tigers to a 7-3 win over Hawks, while Sparks picked up a comfortable 9-1 victory over Lemmings, whose only point came courtesy of Mark Darlington’s five-set victory over Sparks substitute Dave Nelson.

In the final Division One match, Raptors took full advantage of a Manweb side who could only field two players as they recorded an 8-2 win.

Meanwhile, Kinetics sit top of Division Two after easing to a 6-4 win over Vikings.

John Roberts performed well in defeat for Vikings as he finished the match unbeaten.

Daresbury Lab Rats are in second spot as they beat Victoria’s seconds by the same scoreline. Garry Owen substituted in for Victoria and won all three of his games.

Sticklebacks comfortable defeated Rangers without dropping a game while Nigel Spratt’s maximum helped Romans march to an 8-2 win over Snakes.

At this early stage of the league season, three teams – Sticklebacks, Vikings and Victoria seconds – are all tied for third place in the league as they pursue the top two.
