HOLLY Weedall continued a remarkable summer on Saturday when she added a regional title to her growing collection of successes.

The Vale Royal Athletics Club star took gold in the under 15s girls’ 1,500m at the Northern Championships in Liverpool, crossing the line in 4:38.14.

Clubmate Grace Roberts also claimed bronze in the same race.

Weedall, a student at Weaverham High School, was third over the same distance at the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships last month.

She also holds the county schools’ and club titles for the age-group category despite only moving up from under 13s this season.

There was a medal too for Vale Royal’s Holly Smith, who was third in the under 17s girls’ 3,000m ahead of sister Lucy who reached the finish in fifth place.

Jake Wilson battled breezy conditions to run a personal best at Wavertree, where he narrowly missed out on a podium place after classifying fourth in the under 15s boys’ 3,000m.

Vale Royal’s contingent on Merseyside was completed by Alice Gale, who was seventh in a hard-fought heat for the under 13s girls’ 800m.

A newcomer in only her second year of competition, she timed 2:34.10.
