YOUNG footballers are proving their doubters wrong in stunning style and setting their sights high for next season.

Players of Park Royal FC Winsford, previously known as Winsford Over 3, came together at Knights Grange after being rejected by other youth teams in the area.

The ‘unwanted squad’ struggled in their first two seasons, winning just seven games.

But the Park Royal FC Winsford boys and girls stuck together, kept improving and turned themselves into a winning machine.

They finished the last Mid Cheshire Youth League season with a continuous streak of eight victories and a draw.

Now they are targeting more success in 2018-19.

Manager Danny Chapman formed the club in 2015 after his own son was unable to get into local teams.

Chapman, who is also a parent governor at Oak View Academy, Winsford, said: “We had players deemed not got enough for other teams, as well as some who had never played before.

“It was a struggle at first. There were hard times, both for the players and myself, and we had to keep morale high.

“We kept doing the right things, became resilient and improved.

“The children never gave up.

“This team has always been built on loyalty, honesty, respect, hard work and teamwork, and it’s finally clicked. I couldn’t be prouder.

“Only one player has ever left to play for another team, which speaks volumes for the spirit and togetherness we have.

“As for next season, we are looking for a 10-game unbeaten streak and a tour to Europe!”

Park Royal FC Winsford receive backing from Middlewich-based Distinctive Windows and Doors for the team kit, while North West Academies Trust (NWAT) provide their winter training jackets.

Additional support for the new season is welcomed by Chapman, who can be contacted on 07593 809591.

Chapman added: “This generosity gives the children the sense of being part of a team. We’re very grateful.

“The players have also worked hard together off the pitch to help raise funds to make sure they can keep playing together.”
