BARRY Crellin made an impact on his return to action for Winsford when they saw off Tranmere Victoria by 77 runs last weekend.

The veteran was at his destructive best at the crease, blasting a rapid unbeaten 49 to boost his team’s total to 207-6 after they had won the toss.

That included a partnership with son Ben (54no), who was also not out.

Skipper Mike Dean (31) and Mark Skellon (27) chipped in too.

Winsford’s attack wasted no time knocking over the home team for 130, led by spinner Craig Webb (5-44) who extracted turn and bounce from an obliging wicket.

Dave Etchells (2-28) and Dean (2-11) provided support, while Crellin held on to two catches behind the stumps and claimed as many stumpings.

They sit sixth in the Cheshire League Division Two table ahead of a meeting with Knutsford on Saturday, from 2pm.

Winsford’s seconds fell to a nine-wicket reverse at home to Mossley in Division C South.

Andy Cooper (31) and Andy Johnson (23) got them off to a solid start before they crumbled to 100 all out thanks largely to Ian Riley (6-20 off 12 overs).

Daniel Holtom (1-28) removed opener Ryan Speak for a duck before the visitors cruised to their target in the 29th over without losing another wicket.
