WINSFORD’S tennis players were served a reminder of the standard at the South and Mid Cheshire League’s highest level when they visited champions Congleton A.

An 8-0 defeat last Tuesday is their first since returning to Division One.

Simon Nuttall, Mark Abbiss, Chris Knight and Alex Lerczak were on court.

Winsford B were victors for a second successive week in Division Three, squeezing past Hartford F at Knights Grange.

Damian Cookson, Martin Stoilov, Chris Mayoh and Steve McCormack were their quartet for a 4½-3½ win.

McCormack was back on duty for Winsford C on Thursday, when they lost 5-3 at home to Congleton D in Division Four.

Steve Harris, James Condliffe and John Randall joined him.

Meanwhile Winsford D, newly-formed for the 2017 summer season, succumbed to Cuddington D in the fifth tier.

Harris played alongside Bill Lawrie, Lewis Penn and Harry Brown in a 5½-2½ reverse at Norley Road.

On Sunday, promoted Winsford went down 6-2 at Nantwich B in the Mixed League’s first division.

Lerczak and Nuttall teamed up with Jackie Penn and Tracy Morley for the visitors.

Winsford’s senior players meet at Knights Grange to work on their game every Monday, from 6pm.

Sessions for under 16s start tomorrow, Wednesday, at the same time.

It is free for members to attend, while non-members pay £2 to play.
