TERRY Turner, of Blades, is on course to retain a Mid Cheshire League open singles title he won last season.

He clinched a semi-final date with Craig Lee (Tigers) after progressing from his qualifying group, and then eliminating Raptors’ Simon Lafferty in the last eight, on Sunday.

Winston Duff (Tigers) will take on second seed Peter Morley (Victoria) on the other side of the draw.

The latter is guaranteed to contest the open doubles final, along with partner Keith Mitchell, against Turner and Ian Oakes after seeing off Duff and Lafferty in the last four.

Duff has a chance of collecting silverware in the SuperVets categories.

Ray Worthington (Sparks) is his opponent in the singles final, while Duff and Oakes (Raptors) take on John Gregson (Wreckers) and Alf Perry (Sparks) to decide the doubles champions.

The line-up for the Mid Cheshire Closed Championships’ finals night, at Lostock Sports and Social Club in early April, is complete following qualifying rounds this month.

Teammates Paul Curley and Andy Edwards, who both play for Bears, will be opponents in the Division Two singles final.

Meanwhile the Division Three singles crown will go to either John Roberts (Vikings) or Martin Selby (Kinetics).

For the drawn doubles, when pairings are drawn on the day, the semi-finalists are Duff, Matt Lafferty (Sticklebacks), Lee, Mitchell, Morley, Adam Ryder (Blades), Turner and Worthington.

The Super League campaign resumes this week with pacesetting Tigers seeking a seventh successive win in the top flight.

Victoria, only two points adrift in second spot, entertain Raptors.

Cobras, already with a huge lead at the top of Division Two, will expect to close the gap by beating struggling Sticklebacks.

In Division Three, Snakes and Vikings aim to protect their unbeaten records on trips to Falcons and Rangers respectively.
