WINSFORD United’s supporters could be forgiven for cursing their luck after the FA published draws for the early rounds of their national competitions on Friday.

Blues will travel to Staveley Miners Welfare, from the Northern Counties East League’s top flight, in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.

The Chesterfield side act as hosts on Saturday, August 6, for a first meeting between the two teams.

A reward for the victors is a trip to either Alsager or Barton Town Old Boys, who are based in Lincolnshire, at the next stage.

Winsford are due a change in fortune in the FA Cup after winning only two of their past 15 ties.

Meanwhile they visit a familiar foe – North West Counties League Premier Division rivals Runcorn Town – in the FA Vase first qualifying round on Saturday, September 10.

For Blues, it is an opportunity to avenge a 3-1 defeat in 2012 that ended their best run in the competition at the third-round stage.

AFC Blackpool await the victors later the same month.
