BOYS from a Winsford football club will have a hard act to follow next season after completing their best campaign.

Woodford under 13s lifted the Division One title for their age group in the Mid Cheshire Youth League after winning all but one of their matches.

They lifted the League Cup too following a 2-0 victory against Grappenhall Sports Blue – who also finished second in the table – in the final.

“The lads have worked incredibly hard and never given up,” said manager Simon Elliott.

“I just feel immensely proud of them.”

Woodford travelled to Holland at the end of term, contesting an Amsterdam Cup tournament that attracted more than 180 teams from half-a-dozen countries.

They finished third overall in their age category, which included 32 sides, and collected a fair play prize as a reward for their behaviour on the field.

Elliott said: “It was a great experience for everybody involved – a never-to-be forgotten achievement!”
