WINSFORD Swim Team’s latest success is further proof of the club’s strength in depth, according to head coach Dan Goodwin.

They finished first in the Crusader League’s top flight for a third successive year after outscoring rivals Halton, Leek and Crewe in the final round.

“Every swimmer made a huge contribution,” said Goodwin.

“They were ready, and focused on the job at hand.

“To see all of them race their hearts out is what makes me happy to coach them.”

Winsford recorded wins in 28 of the 51 races, finishing runner-up in a further 16.

They classified inside the top two in every relay too.

Goodwin said: “That shows the quality we have across the board at Winsford.”

“I could single out individuals for a mention, but it’s a collective effort.

“It’s wonderful to watch them so prepared to fight for their teammates.”

Winsford started the gala, which they hosted, with a 27-point lead at the Division One summit.

They finished 37 clear of Halton on the night to clinch another victory, and the title.

More than a dozen swimmers will now continue their preparations for national competitions in the coming weeks.

The British Summer Championships take place at the end of July, with the ASA National Summer Championships scheduled for the start of August.

Both are at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

The ASA Open Water Festival, at Rother Valley Country Park, precedes those events.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for so many of our swimmers to qualify for the nationals,” said Goodwin.

“There’s not long to go, so it’s imperative they optimise training to be in the best possible shape.”
