A TEAM representing Pockets, in Winsford, have captured the Mid Cheshire League’s Premier Division title after winning all their matches.

They were grateful to Craig Winslow for holding his nerve in their final fixture, against Crosville, after he stayed calm to win a decisive frame in a slender 4-3 victory.

It left them 43 points clear in the final table.

Stewart Colclough, after registering victories in 28 of his 32 matches, topped the solo standings.

Pockets A, guided by captain Andy Hollinshead, secured promotion from the second tier as champions after edging title-rivals Winnington B in their last match.

Their reward is a place in the top flight next season.

Pockets B were fourth in the same section.

Not to be outdone, Pockets D claimed the runners-up prize in Division Two behind Victoria B.

Pete McDermott’s men defeated the table-toppers in the season’s final round, finishing four points adrift of first place.

Paul Cheung, after notching 29 wins in 36 games, topped the section’s averages.

“It’s an unprecedented season of success for our sides,” said Pockets owner Martin Morgan.

“All of them had something to play for in the final week, which made things tense, but they finished the job.

“It’s a remarkable achievement for Pockets C to remain unbeaten.”

Pockets duo Stewart Colclough and Ritchie Proctor also won the Alliance Pairs title, beating Winnington tandem Lee Cobley and Rhys Jones in the final in April.

Colcough was also in the line-up, along with Adam Griffiths and Sam Hancock, that secured for the Winsford outfit a second Owley Wood Three Man title in three seasons.

The Mid Cheshire League's members gather for the competition's annual meeting on Monday, June 27.
