DAVE Bird, from Winsford, is part of the men’s A team selected for Cheshire’s trip to Essex in the British Inter County Championships this weekend.

The Cosey Club regular was a victor in a 23-16 success against Devon last time out, when Cheshire men’s A ended a sequence of three consecutive defeats in the current campaign with a 9-3 win.

Weaverham-based Matt Hunt, who plays for Temple Bar in the Cheshire Men’s Super League, is in the men’s B side.

For the ladies, Winsford’s Andrea Hunt and Jane Stubbs, from Northwich, will hope to repeat individual victories secured against Devon.

Meanwhile Bev Martin retains her place, while there is a recall for fellow Winsford darter Heidi Williams.

They are joined in Essex by Rudheath clubmates Ros Davies and Emma Pearce.

Cheshire will start the contest, at Chelmsford Social Club, sixth in the overall table.

The ladies’ A team protects an unbeaten record after winning two, and drawing as many, in their four matches to date.
