WHARTON Cons are through to the last eight of the Brunner Cup, a competition they have won three times previously.
The Winsford outfit proved too strong for Pack Horse, from Macclesfield, in Saturday’s third-round encounter, dropping only six chalks in a comfortable 246-133 success at a neutral green in Altrincham.
Their reward is to face Grange Sports in the quarter finals next month.
The men from the Tin Mission last lifted the trophy in 2012.
Another Winsford-based team, Meadowbank, play in the Cheshire County Bowling Association’s Norman Cup this Saturday.
They have been paired with Wilmslow Cons in the second round, with their tie scheduled for a green at Congleton’s Coronation Club.
Play starts at 2.30pm.
