WINSFORD Flash Sailing Club celebrated their 80th birthday by demonstrating how they have spent a handout from the town council.

Junior sailors, who acted as ambassadors during an open day last weekend, will be able to take advantage of rash vests and spray tops bought with a £600 donation.

Mayor of Winsford, Cllr Gina Lewis, was joined by fellow town councillors Mike Kennedy, Brian Clark and Steve Smith – as well as club members – to unveil a commemorative plaque.

They then savoured the Flash’s beauty from on board the club’s racing committee boat.

In a speech, commodore Ian Foulkes toasted the club’s past achievements as well as wishing for future success.
