WINSFORD United took four points from six on offer over the past week, but had to fight back to rescue a draw on Saturday.

That followed a 4-1 success against West Didsbury in midweek, when Sam Marshall, Kyle Riley, Alex Byrne and new recruit Lee Wilshaw all netted.

But Rob Byrne’s outfit relied on a late Danny Egan effort to take a share of the points at the weekend.

With two minutes on the clock Eli Mitchell released Egan, who was unlucky to see his lob drop narrowly over.

Further chances fell to Mitchell and Marshall, while at the other end Joel Melia was faced with an open goal only to hesitate and allow Danny Jarrett to avert any danger.

The visitors began to take charge, with Riley having a shot saved by goalkeeper Scott Reid and then seeing a shot rebound to Egan who fired wide.

Zachary Cooper sent an effort over after the break for Town before Marshall’s shot was deflected onto a post by Reid.

Matthew Tierney’s free kick was then headed wide by Gavin Ellison, while Jack Tinning smashed into the side netting from a promising position.

The hosts broke the deadlock with 19 minutes left when Melia beat his marker before teeing up Mark Threlfall to head in.

Blues looked to hit back immediately, but Matthew Tierney could only manage a weak shot before substitute James Rothwell missed the target with another chance.

With eight minutes left, Egan popped up with the leveller after being sent clear by Rothwell, firing high into the net from an angle.
