IT made me scowl not smile when the Vale Royal Smyle-News and the Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service annual report landed through my letterbox.
Why oh why do these people continue to spend thousands and thousands of pounds in self-congratulatory reports?
The two mentioned are the tip of the iceberg. They are a big contribution to Council Tax costs, totally unnecessary – a simple Guardian advert extolling their dubious virtues and self satisfaction would be cheaper.
Also these are the ‘Gods of the Recycling Sects’ felling trees by the hundred to print and publish their trumpeting of reduce waste/recycle everything thing, and who by their very own smugness and correctness waste more and more on these pointless periodicals.
Buck up Cheshire Council/Vale Royal - or whatever you are going to be called. Time to recycle your eco befuddled ideas and save us some money.

Not so long ago I was walking in the Precinct and as a smoker was collared by 3 council staff who gave me a little PLASTIC pouch to keep my dimps in.
What idiot thought that was a good idea?
I saw more plastic pouches on the pavement than fag dimps that afternoon. I may be wrong, but I thought plastic to be less bio-degradable than a fag dimp?
Does anyone still use these pouches?
It would be laughable if not for the cost and more productive if the council staff wielded a brush.
