Sad state of affairs on canal

I READ the article in the Northwich Guardian regarding the boat owners on the canal.

I walk along this pathway, having done so for quite a few years, getting to know the residents who have respect for the pathways and wildlife on the canal.

But how sad to hear that British Waterways only see the length of their boats and what profit can be made.

Why don’t they see the people first who choose this way of life as individuals – instead of what they can make from them?

This problem seems to have harassed the boat residents for years leaving them with uncertainty about their future.

How sad that life on the canal is not as tranquil as it seems.

I respect Geoff Mayer fighting for his beliefs on an unfair tax that they are trying to impose on him.

I totally agree with Mrs Regan regarding Mr Myers' article. The people who live on the canals, a great number of whom are pensioners, cannot afford the outrageous fees British Waterways are asking for. After all British Waterways is a PUBLIC concern not a private company.
