Blame tinkers not us gipsies

I read with great interest all the comments made by people not wanting a gipsy site near to where they live.

Have you had a ride around the council estates we have in our area and had a look at the appalling state of half of them?

As a true Romany family born, bred and reared in Northwich we were respected. We certainly would never have stayed on other folk’s land without permission or fouled there land with such rubbish.

Gardens full of old bikes, washing machines shoulder high in weeds, windows boarded up because you have to pay for your own repairs when they get broken after a drunken night out.

Go to Middlewich and take the road along the canal and look to your right at all the true English gipsies’ houses. They are clean and well cared for.

For those of you who do remember the fairground in Northwich and the travellers site in William Street in Winsford, this is the difference.

The travellers site at William Street was the home for many years to true English gipsies.

They all worked hard and so when it closed most of them bought those beautiful well cared for homes in Middlewich and some went to Wigan to properly organised travellers’ sites paying rent and taxes.

The ones you are all up in arms about are tinkers.

They come over to our country, stop anywhere, make their mess, leave their rubbish for we law-abiding citizens to pay to have cleaned up.

These are not gipsies and they give the true English Romany travellers a bad name by associating them with true gipsies.

True gipsies were made welcome when they travelled the country, sharpening your knives and scissors and selling their ribbons and telling fortunes These are your true gipsies As a true Romany family born, bred and reared in Northwich we were respected. We certainly would never have stayed on other folk’s land without permission or fouled there land with such rubbish.

So before you call these people gipsies, please spare a thought for the true Romanies and their children, who live in some of the cleanest, most beautiful homes you can imagine, and remember most of the Romanies are now settled into houses.

These sites will be built without a doubt, but as a respectable citizen like you I would request they are wardened, like travellers sites, and all dwellers are vetted too.

That way we can all live in a clean peaceful environment.

But I think the councils’ have to also do some work with the state of their homes in Vale Royal and have a mass clean up in progress – there is no need in this day and age for homes to be in such an awful mess and people dumping rubbish in their gardens and in our lanes when we have one of the best recycling depots in England.

Laziness is what it is called, so to all the folks sat at that meeting, can I come and view your home and land or are you just another complainer not knowing what you are talking about.
