IN reply to the gentleman who castigated me for complaining about the illegal parking situation in Northwich (September 10) may I just say I use Weaver Way virtually every other day and the illegal parking does cause problems at times.
Only last week, traffic was halted because a delivery vehicle at McDonald’s could not reverse out because a vehicle was illegally parked.
But his attitude is, I am afraid, symptomatic of our lazy society, too idle to park in a free designated car park barely 300 yards away.
I believe in zero tolerance where breaking the law is concerned not his laissez faire attitude that we should just ignore it.

Emergency vehicles to pass should it be necessary.By and large, people do not park there all day.It is used by busy people dropping items )possibly heavy bags)off at several Charity shops, nipping in to the Banks and Building Societies and so on.It is not true that it is not Policed.I watched two 'teenage' PCOs book a large number of motorists a few weeks ago.So they DO from time to time when funds are low, send out the kids to rake in some cash,or Brownie points.
The only change in the area I would very much like to see is for the traffic flow to be reversed (as it was during the swing bridge closures.)Once you are in the present system, which might be totally snarled up further on,you are stuck! There is no escape route at all.
I remember being unable to get out of Baron's Quay carpark on one occasion, and took an hour to reach Chesterway.I believe that this build-up is a regular occurrence.
It was SO much better to be able to turn towards the Bull Ring and be out of the town in about two minutes, without getting entangled with all the traffic heading east out of town. There is much wrong with the traffic system in the town, but this simple action which would provide an 'escape route' for west-bound traffic would make a huge difference.Even better if,on reaching the Bull Ring you could go straight through to the lights by Somerfields. How easy!
Imagine how much congestion could be
solved at a swipe,by just reversing the flow on two roads.
But maybe our traffic flow managers get their kicks from seeing how they can cause most congestion?!!
