Girl, 16, beat up an 18-year-old

A WINSFORD girl attacked another teenager after an argument, a court heard.

The 16-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting an 18-year-old girl by beating when she appeared at Vale Royal Youth Court on Wednesday May 7.

The incident happened at the junction of Wharton Road and Crook Lane at 11.45pm on March 25.

Laurence Bestow, prosecuting, said the victim was walking home from Wetherspoons with friends when a car drove past with its occupants shouting at the walkers.

The car stopped in Crook Lane and two girls, including the defendant, got out, shouting at the victim and asking what she had been shouting at them.

Mr Bestow, reading from the victim's statement, said: "She pushed me in the chest with both hands and attempted to headbutt me.

"She punched me to the face with her right hand and said to her friend hold her while I beat her'."

Mr Bestow said the second girl held her while the defendant kneed her in the face and hit her on the back of the head with her fists.

He added that the defendant also tried to bang the victim's head against a brick wall.

Will Hurley, defending, said the 16-year-old denied trying to headbutt the victim, kneeing her in the face or banging her head against a brick wall but did admit being the aggressor when she got out of the car to confront the victim.

He said this was the first battery offence she had committed since 2005 and added: "For some considerable period of time she has kept herself out of trouble with police and effectively stayed offence-free."

The 16-year-old told magistrates: "I do regret doing it because I was in the wrong and I do want to apologise to her."

Magistrates gave her an 80-hour community punishment order and told her to pay £35 court costs and £50 compensation to her victim.
