Thieves snatch lead from a church roof

LEAD was stolen from the roof of a Winsford church at the weekend.

Thieves struck at United Reformed Church in Swanlow Lane sometime over Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Det Sgt Tony Jones said: “There were a lot of lead thefts at one point but they seemed to have petered out. Hopefully this incident is not part of the trend begining again.”

Unfortunately it is very difficult to catch people in the act but more and more churches now have CCTV systems to deter criminals.
