A £35,000 scheme to overhaul playtime in Winsford continues to thrive with Stanthorne play area next in line for a revamp.

The play area has fallen into a state of disrepair after constant attacks from vandals and is in dire need of a revamp.

Winsford Town Mayor Des Worthington said: “A lot of these play areas have been neglected and its nice to think that we are getting some money coming in now for redevelopment.

“The plan is to regenerate a lot of these play areas and it really is needed for the kids.”

The scheme, which has been funded by Winsford Town Council and Waste Recycling Environment Network (WREN), has already seen improvements made at Meadowbank, with Leaf Lane, King George Sixth, Over Rec and Wharton Rec next in line for the refurbishment.

Clr Worthington said despite the threat from vandalism and graffiti the scheme must go on.

“Although we do get vandalism we can’t let that deter from the fact that we have got to give these facilities to the kids,” he said.

“It’s a good thing that we are developing these areas for the kids and it will be a big improvement to what they had before.”

The committee will meet next Thursday, September 4 to decide what type of equipment they would like to see installed.

A decision will also be taken as to whether or not to keep the football pitch, although residents have expressed a strong desire for this, and whether or not the playground should be closed at night.
