MORECAMBE Bay’s eight mile crossing has been conquered by a Winsford man on a mission to raise money for charity.
Don Beresford, of Moors Lane, was among the 500 walkers who completed the dicey crossing of Morecambe Bay sands, while being guided by the Queen’s Guide Cedric Robinson MBE.
The walk was organised by the Rotary Club of Winsford & Middlewich and was in aid of the Neuromuscular Centre in Winsford and Children in Africa.
Don said: “While the sands appear quite safe and firm to walk across to the untrained eye, our guide Cedric had to divert us past an area of dangerous quick sand and demonstrated its potency by throwing a stick which was dragged down quite rapidly, joining many other items such as tractors, cars, horse and carts – not to mention the various people who have been lost on the sands.”
All the walkers managed to cross without any serious mishaps and raised substantial funds for their designated charities.
