MINDLESS thugs are putting drivers’ lives in danger with the latest prank to sweep through Winsford.
Last week two vehicles travelling on the A54 near to Winsford Marina were pelted with marbles, which resulted in the side window of a large HGV being smashed.
Det Sgt Tony Jones, of Winsford NPU, said: “I can’t believe anyone would be so mindless and reckless as to fire things at moving vehicles.
“The HGV had some weight behind it and if it wasn’t for the skill shown by the driver we could have ended up dealing with a very serious collision.”
Police suspect the culprits used a strong catapult to fire at the vehicles from the marina car park.
In a second incident on Wednesday, August 13, pellets were fired at a van damaging the back of the vehicle.
DS Jones added: “Whoever is responsible clearly has no concern for the safety of others and I don’t think it is any exaggeration to say that we are lucky that no one has been seriously injured or killed.
“In each case the drivers say they heard a loud bang before their vehicles were struck so we are clearly dealing with a weapon which is capable of firing at high velocity.
“We are working to gather all evidence and catch those responsible, but I would ask all drivers in the area to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to Winsford Police.”
