A WINSFORD businesswoman has lost thousands of pounds after a fire above her shop.

Anne Maddock, who runs Treasures in Over Square with her sister Pat, is being forced to shut shop after a blaze broke out in the flat above the premises in February destroying £10,000 worth of stock.

The sisters were hoping they would be able to salvage the items but after assessing the damage have decided they will have to close.

Anne, of Darnhall School Lane, said: “It’s such a shame, we are gutted and we have lost an awful lot of money.

“We would like to reopen, but we haven’t found another premises.

“We want to stop in the Winsford area, but we couldn’t afford to go in town because the rents are too high.”

The pair opened the gift shop in March 2007 and sold a range of unique trinkets and treasures from cards and photo frames to gift baskets and christening presents.

Even though the fire did not spread to the shop, there was a considerable amount of smoke and water damage from the hoses.

Anne added: “We were doing well, it was just starting to build up, which is why it’s such a shame.

“As luck would have it we both kept on our other jobs.”

Anne, who also works as a greetings cards rep, did manage to salvage some stock and plans to reopen for three days and sell off the merchandise at a reduced price.

The store will be open from tomorrow, Thursday, until Saturday from 10am till 5pm.
