Fire service jobs

2:30pm Friday 18th July 2008

CHESHIRE Fire Service is looking for some new recruits to join its ranks.

The organisation is appealing to the people of Winsford to sign up as retained fire-fighters.

Station manager Derek Dickson said: “Our retained duty staff attend exactly the same sort of emergency incidents as our full-time crews and are trained to use our range of specialist rescue equipment.

“The system is extremely flexible however, and means people can be on standby either at home or in their full-time job and then respond when there is an emergency.”

Cheshire Fire employs 500 full time fire-fighters and around 220 retained staff who respond in emergency – usually in rural areas.

Retained fire-fighters are paid £2,000 per year as well as extra fees when they attend emergencies.

The fire service is holding an open day on Thursday, July 31 at Winsford Fire Station, in Sadler Road, from 6pm till 8pm and is inviting the people of Winsford to go along and find out more about the scheme.

Applicants must have a good level of fitness and live or work close to the fire station.
