PUPILS at Charles Darwin Community Primary School in Castle have been presented with high-visibility vests by the David Wilson Homes team at Winnington Village.

The vests were donated to the school as part of an initiative by the housebuilder to help keep children safe when walking to and from school on dark winter nights and on school trips.

The donation has also been made to coincide with national Road Safety Awareness Week.

Steve Jackson, sales director at Winnington Village, said: “Now the clocks have gone back it is more difficult for motorists to see pedestrians in the dark mornings and nights.

“We want to help school children in the local community stay safe when out walking by offering high-visibility vests so they can be clearly seen by motorists.”

Adam Croft, head teacher at Charles Darwin Community Primary School, said: “We try to encourage as many of our pupils as possible to walk to school in a safe and sensible fashion.

“It is great to see a developer support such a valuable initiative, and we really appreciate the donation from David Wilson Homes.”
