Acton Bridge WI by Caroline Young

The President, Judy Pardoe, welcomed everyone to this month’s meeting and AGM of Acton Bridge WI. The Treasurer and the Secretary were sadly absent as a result of family bereavements but had left full notes for the meeting which were gratefully received.

Members were thanked for all their hard work by the CFWI chairman and the President, for the highly successful Autumn Fest in September. The reprinted Recipe Books are now for sale. A trip to see The Lady in the Van and a visit to be shown round the new Barons Quay development in Northwich were suggested.

Two more members were proposed to join the existing committee, and they and the Treasurer and Secretary were all confirmed unanimously in their positions.

The speaker Tony Vine, gave a talk on Fossils. He gave an outline of the changes the world had undergone since its beginning, and had brought a number of fossils to illustrate his points. He passed around some very brightly coloured slivers of polished stone with a marbled and speckled colouring. Members were surprised to be told this was fossilised dinosaur dung! After questions, he joined members for tea and delicious cakes provided by Ann Crute and Elizabeth Wakeford.

The next meeting is the Christmas Party, on December 8, at the earlier time of 6pm. Invitations were being distributed to members and senior Acton Bridge villagers, replies or regrets to be sent by the November 27 deadline.
