A HAIRDRESSER from Winsford said she was ‘gutted’ after thieves broke into her salon and stole her daughter’s £700 wedding fund.

Joint proprietor of British Hair Waves, Christine Scanlan, had been collecting from customers to help pay for her 26-year old, Kate, to tie the knot in Ibiza next year.

But just two days before she was due to handover the goodwill kitty, thieves broke into her High Street salon through a rear window and made off with the cash, as well as £300 from a tip jar.

The till was smashed and cupboards ransacked during the raid, which occurred between 2pm on Wednesday, August 29 and 8.30am on Thursday, August 30.

To make matters worse – the savings in the shop are not covered by the business’ insurance.

“We never leave money on the premises, but we’d been having a collection for about six months to send Kate on her dream wedding abroad,” explained Christine.

She continued: “We’d saved all this money up that we were going to give her that weekend. They’ve come in and smashed the whole till up and emptied all the cabinets.

“They managed to find the money we’d saved, and also took the tip box. Everyone at the shop is just gutted.

“The last time we were broken into, thieves took charity money we’d been saving; £500 for St Luke’s Hospice.”

Christine’s daughter, Kate Scanlan, 26, and her fiancée, Matthew Leach, 27, have now been forced to re-plan their big day.

“They’ve had to cut a few things out. They were going to have a honeymoon in Rome, but they can’t do that now,” said Christine.

Police attended the scene at 8.57am onThursday, August 30 and carried out forensic tests.
