Six held over shooting

SIX men have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Winsford.

The men, aged between 28 and 38, were held on suspicion of firearms offences on Thursday following a shooting in Over last year.

The group from Liverpool, Abergele, Llandudno and Denby in Wales, includes a 26-year-old from Hartford. All were released on police bail pending further inquires until April 20.

The arrests come almost four months after shots were fired in Walmer Place, Over, at around 11.15pm on Wednesday, September 23.

No one was injured but police suspected it might have been linked to an incident moments before in Vauxhall Way when a group of men armed with baseball bats attacked a blue Land Rover.

The shooting was the second one in four weeks, with shots also fired in an argument outside the shopping precinct in nearby Denbigh Drive.

Six men appeared at Northwich Magistrates Court charged with possession of an imitation firearm in connection with the Denbigh Drive shooting last week.

All were remanded into custody and will next appear at Chester Crown Court on February 16.

Speaking at the time, Cheshire Police refuted claims that the two incidents were related to gangs but stepped up patrols and used stop and search powers.

Officers are still looking for information about the incidents. If you can help in anyway, call Cheshire Constabulary on 0845 458 0000 or alternatively call Crimestoppers and leave information anonymously on 0800 555 111.
