VERDIN High School has been placed in special measures by Ofsted.
Inspectors deemed standards at the school to be 'inadequate' during a two-day inspection on May 20 and 21.
But praise was given for the school's care of vulnerable students, and the sixth form was graded as 'satisfactory'.
The school will now be provided with extra support and funding to help it meet the national standards.
Martin Howlett, principle teacher of the Winsford Schools Federation said: "I am pleased the inspection has highlighted the strengths of the school.
"I am also convinced that with the hard work and dedication of Verdin's staff and students and the support of the community, standards of achievement will improve at Verdin."
