THE Winsford Learning Zone is on course to be up and running by next year.
The giant steel frame of the £10million centre in Weaver Street is rapidly taking shape, and bosses at Mid-Cheshire College, the company behind the project, are confident of an April 2010 handover.
The facility will offer vocational courses such as beauty therapy, hairdressing, public services and ICT, and will also house some of the academic subjects from the Winsford joint sixth form.
Young people aged 14 to 16 will have the opportunity to study for vocational qualifications, such as the new diplomas, during their last two years at school.
The new college will also act as a centre for adult education and training, with courses being offered at all levels from basic skills to foundation degrees.
College Principal John Reilly is looking forward to taking over the new building. He said: "The new college will be a huge boost for lifelong learning in Winsford.
"Our current accommodation in the town is now looking very ‘tired’ and we want our staff and students to work and learn in the very best facilities we can build. Our motto is that an outstanding college deserves outstanding facilities."
