WHAT can you say about the film of the year?
The second helping of the modern-day Batman adventures sees Christian Bale return to the role of the brooding avenger ably accompanied by Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon, God, (Morgan Freeman) as his gadget man, Lucius Fox, and Michael Caine as butler and confidante Alfred.
Rivalling the already established fab four are newcomers Aaron Eckhart, as Harvey Dent, and the enormously talented Heath Ledger as the most magnicent mentalist Joker.
Our hero faces a moral dilemma: Stay quiet and become the despised avenger cleaning up the streets of Gotham? Or step forward and reveal himself as billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne to save his friends?
Ledger is outstanding and Eckhart isn't far behind but my personal favourite is Caine – if ever a man was born to play a part he is, and this is it.
Dark, foreboding and fantastic!
